HBO’s hit comedy Silicon Valley may focus on the awkward techies of the Bay Area, but its choice in music often registers at top-notch cool levels. The program’s glitchy theme song was provided by Thomas Fec of Tobacco and Black Moth Super Rainbow fame, and episodes tend to feature excellent tracks by the likes of Run the Jewels, Danny Brown, Alabama Shakes, Pusha T, and Spoon.

In yet another stroke of musical genius, the folks behind Silicon Valley recently enlisted the help of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, as FACT points out. On last night’s episode “Daily Active Users”, the Canadian post-rock outfit’s 2000 cut “Gathering Storm” soundtracked a cheesy commercial for Pied Piper, the tech start-up founded by the show’s main characters. Let’s just say the ad’s hilariously perfect, and, considering the band’s notorious for turning down music licensing projects and most things corporate, an especially neat thing from the guys in Godspeed You!
