Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives is even sadder when soundtracked by Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” — watch

Every bite is filled with sorrow and regret

Overeating is an American epidemic. The adult obesity rate in this country is over 35%, and there’s little sign that it’s slowing. Despite the abundance of information and programs out there to help those who simply cannot put the fork down, some people struggle daily with their calorie intake. Take, for example, celebrity chef and personified deep frier Guy Fieri.

For a staggering 24 seasons, Fieri has hosted the Food Network program Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. That’s 260 episodes of devouring sausages, shoveling in hamburgers, and guzzling gravy like he’s Tony Stark drinking chlorophyll in Iron Man 2. Except instead of saving his life, all that ingesting is probably slowly wearing away at his digestive track and arteries. And it’s all for the sake of a paycheck and entertaining the masses of TV junkies.

When you look at it that way, the life of millionaire Guy Fieri is actually pretty sad. And when you soundtrack it with Johnny Cash’s cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt”, it’s downright heartbreaking. That’s what YouTuber Mayor Wetrz discovered (via A.V. Club) came to realize when he mashed up the song with clips of Fieri chomping on all sorts of greasy, gooey goodies. Okay, so it also happens to be pretty damn funny, but it’s also one of the most depressing things you’ll likely to see today. Check out the video above.
