Sylvester Stallone has a new thriller he’s excited about.

This year’s Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee has signed on for genre director Jim Mickle’s highly anticipated follow-up to his 2014 stunner, Cold in July. STX Entertainment is backing the project.

Formerly titled Godforsaken, Daniel Casey’s screenplay finds Stallone playing an aging ex-con haunted by regrets and a life that’s fallen wayside. When his estranged son is killed, he must protect the only family he has left.

“It’s a privilege to be part of something that’s going to provide entertainment and artistic value,” Stallone boasted back in April during STX’s presentation at CinemaCon. At the time, the project remained a mystery.

Stallone has a murky schedule ahead. His last gig was offering his vocal talents to Ratchet and Clank, and until this bit of news, he was only loosely attached to Nicholas Pileggi’s biopic of Gregory Scarpa and rumored for Guardians of the Galaxy sequel.

It’s good to see him back in the proverbial ring.
