Oscar winner Brie Larson is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to Variety, Larson is the frontrunner to play Captain Marvel in an upcoming standalone film due out March 8th, 2019. Update: Marvel officially confirmed Larson’s casting during Comic Con this evening.

Larson, whose performance in Room earned the Academy Award for Best Actress, is in negotiations to portray Carol Danvers, an air force pilot who gains super human strength after coming into contact with an alien Kree (those blue fellows from Guardians of the Galaxy  and TV’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). The film adaption is being written by Inside Out scribes Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman.

No director is currently in place for Captain Marvel, but it’s likely the character will debut in another MCU film prior to her standalone adventure. Good money has it that she’ll first pop up in May 4th, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, Part I, but if a deal comes together quickly enough, don’t be surprised if she’s a post-credits reveal tagged to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 when it hits theaters on May 5th, 2017.
