Despite having one of the greatest albums of the year with Color Book, Chance the Rapper was no where to be found on the bill for Lollapalooza 2016. That doesn’t mean the local hero wasn’t at Grant Park at all, though. During yesterday’s opening day of the festival, Chance made a surprise appearance during Flosstradamus’ closing set at Perry’s Stage.
And he wasn’t alone, either. He brought along the basketball superstar Dwayne Wade (the newest member of the Chicago Bulls), former Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams (who sang “Survivor”), rapper Post Malone, and even Wade’s wife, actress Gabrielle Union.
With his friends bouncing across the stage with him, Chance delivered performances of the hit “No Problem” and the sober jam “Summer Friends”. As the latter song started and Chance posted up in front of the glowing lights and screens of the stage, he looked out across the crowd and savored the scene. “Oh yeah, this is definitely a moment right now,” he said. I wonder if Malia Obama got to enjoy it, too?
