and the Anonymous Nobody… is the forthcoming album from De La Soul, due to hit stores on August 26th. The hip-hop legends’ first LP in over a decade has thus far been previewed with the funky “Trainwreck” and the sleek, Snoop Dogg-aided “Pain”. Today, they’ve broken off another cut with “Royalty Capes”.

“Us three be the omega like fish oil/ This royal right be owned, no rentals/ Owners of the cape express,” De La Soul boast like kings over a triumphant, sax-heavy backdrop. In a statement on Facebook, the New York outfit detailed how the song came together:

“‘Royalty Capes’, produced by Dave aka Plug Too and mixed by Bob Power, is one of the first songs recorded during early jam sessions for and the Anonymous Nobody. Recording started at The Bomb Shelter and perfected at historic Vox Studios in LA with an unorthodox 9 bar loop of saxophone slowed down and reconstituted for Pos and Dave. It was one of those rare moments where he Dave wrote his part first. Dave said it just sounded like royalty walking in and he put his rhymes down and Pos followed his lead.”
