Last year, we crowned Tame Impala the Best Band, and dubbed their album Currents one of 2015’s Top 50 releases. Consequence of Sound readers also shared our great admiration for the Australian outfit.
Who else thinks very highly of the LP? Well, that would be “Your Body is a Wonderland” singer and Dead & Company member John Mayer. On his Instagram account last night, Mayer posted a picture of the Currents artwork along with a message stating his undying love for the album and band.
“This is the best record of the past two or three years,” he wrote. “Proven many times over in my mind. Think Radiohead 1996. Coldplay 2003. Phoenix 2008. Melody heaven. If I ever got broken up with by a girl for the guy [Kevin Parker] in Tame Impala I’d be like, “I understand, and if you don’t mind, could you maybe bring him to a show of mine sometime?”
We’re not sure if Smash Mouth are on the Tame Impala bandwagon yet, but Parker’s already built up quite the fan club — one including Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner, Mark Ronson, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna — so Mayer better be prepared to take a number. For what it’s worth, Mayer recently also posted Instagram pictures showing his appreciation for Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and Black Flag.
