Kurt Vile shares his folky version of Squidbillies theme song — listen

Vile's country-folk persona pairs best considering he's covering a theme song for a show about hillbilly squids

It was only a few months ago that Kurt Vile made a cameo as a squirrel on HBO’s Animals. The guitar virtuoso is now lending his voice to another animated animal-based show with his take on the theme song for Adult Swim’s Squidbillies.

Vile follows in the footsteps of Father John Misty, who had his cover paired with the show’s 10th season premiere, and handful of other artists will follow after Vile, too — such as Sharon Van Etten, the B-52’s, Jimmy Cliff and more — as each episode will feature a new cover, a promotional tactic used in the past. Previous episodes have featured renditions by Alabama ShakesLambchop, Neko Case, and many others, though all contributions considered, Vile’s country-folk persona pairs best considering he’s covering a theme song for a show about hillbilly squids. Give his version a listen above, and check out a behind-the-scenes video below.
