The Last Shadow Puppets and Johnny Marr cover The Smiths, The Fall live — watch

Performing “Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me", with The Smiths' Mike Joyce in the crowd, no less

While performing in The Smiths’ hometown of Manchester, England last week, The Last Shadow Puppets paid tribute to the iconic alternative act by opening with a cover of “Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me”. But to the delight of the crowd, Alex Turner and co. weren’t alone for the rendition; they were joined on stage by none other than Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr.

A fan in the front row captured the whole thing on video, though there’s one aspect his lens wasn’t able to capture. Apparently, Smiths drummer Mike Joyce was also in attendance at the Castlefield Bowl, watching from the crowd. According to a Facebook post, a man turned to Joyce during the performance and informed him, “Seen the guy on the right with black hair? That’s Johnny Marr, the guitarist from The Smiths and this is a Smiths song they’re playing.” You can’t make that shit up.

What’s more, Marr stuck around for yet another cover. With LSP’s Miles Kane at the helm, Marr and the band ripped into The Fall’s “Totally Wired”. Check out footage of that energetic performance below.
