Oh, they’re still remaking The Crow. How lovely.
After juggling between the likes of Bradley Cooper, James McAvoy, Alexander Skarsgaard, Tom Hiddleston, Norman Reedus, Luke Evans, and most recently Jack Huston, it would appear the role of Eric Draven has fallen into the lap of Aquaman and Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa.
The 37-year-old hunk recently posted a photo of himself alongside The Hallow director Corin Hardy with the hashtags #sealthedeal, #wearemarriednowfucker, and #greatnewstocome. Considering The Crow is the only film Hardy’s currently casting, there’s little detective work to be done.
Based on James O’Barr’s epic graphic novel, the story takes place on Devil’s Night, when Eric Draven and his fiancee Shelly are horrifically murdered at the hands of a merciless gang. A year later, Draven rises from the dead to enact his revenge upon his own killers, taking them out one by one as the crow follows near.
The original 1994 film, directed by Alex Proyas, was marred in tragedy when its leading star Brandon Lee was shot on set from what was supposed to be a prop gun. Nevertheless, the film became a cult classic and spawned several sequels and even a television series.
If you couldn’t already tell, this reboot has been in development hell for quite some time. Originally, it was a project for director Stephen Norington (Blade), and then Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), and then F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall). Hardy only hopped on board last year alongside screenwriter Cliff Dorfman (Warrior).
It remains to be seen if Jessica Brown Findlay, who was last reported to play Draven’s fiancee Shelly, is still attached to the project. That was back when Huston was the leading man and not the hulking muscle Momoa who will now wear the makeup and ostensibly sulk around as a goth.
Guy should look real unassuming…
