Rio’s so-called “shoddy” Olympic Village may have left many displeased, but don’t count Belle and Sebastian as one of those detractors. (Or incredible merman Michael Phelps, who is all smiles after scoring his 21st gold medal.) In honor of the summer games, the Scottish indie pop outfit has shared a new song called “Olympic Village, 6AM”.
“Belle and Sebastian dig the Olympics, love the Olympic ideal, love that the world gets together for a big ‘sports day’ once every four years,” they write in the YouTube description for the instrumental track. “We can’t be part of it, though we’d like to be. So we recorded a piece of music with Rio In mind: specifically the Track and Field.” A playful, keyboard-laden listen, it would make for the perfect soundtrack to a goofy Olympic blooper reel.https://youtu.be/fKThRcjXPJY
Check it out via the video above, which features footage of athletes from all over the world. Belle and Sebastian’s last album came in the form of 2015’s Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance.
