Fresh off his romp around Outside Lands and gearing up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of OutKast’s ATLiens, Big Boi sat down with Spin and revealed some exciting news: He and Run the Jewels’ Killer Mike are working on a collaborative EP.
Big Boi said that he’ll release the EP after his forthcoming solo record, which he describes as “halfway done” and “some of my best work to date.”
Talking more about the EP with Killer Mike, he hinted that scheduling conflicts have gotten in the way of similar collaborations in the past. “Killer Mike is busy as hell,” he said. “I mean, he’ll come straight from the airport and go into the studio and bust on two or three records and come back again the next day. We’re just trying to put as many ideas out there as possible.”
This wouldn’t be the first joint project between the two prolific Atlanta rappers. Killer Mike appeared on Big Boi’s last solo release, 2012’s Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, as well as on the self-titled debut from Big Grams (Big Boi and Phantogram). Going further back, Mike also featured on OutKast’s Stankonia and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Big Boi has returned the favor by showing up on Mike’s recordings every now and then, including Run the Jewels’ 2013 hit “Banana Clipper”. Both rappers are also members of the Atlanta-based music collective The Dungeon Family.
No further details about the EP have been released, but we’ll keep you updated as they come in.
