For fans of Tool, it’s sometimes daunting to look forward, the promise of a new album almost impossible to believe. A temporary solution to the never-ending wait? Looking to Tool’s past — as in the band’s very first piece of live footage.
As Alternative Nation points out, new video has surfaced showing Tool performing at Hollywood venue Club With No Name circa October 7, 1991. At the time, Maynard James Keenan & co. were opening for a band called Too Free Stooges.
The footage shows them playing “Hush”, off their 1992 major label debut EP, Opiate, as well as “Sober”, which would later appear on their 1993 album, Undertow. Even early on — this live show takes place only a year after they formed — it was clear that the young Los Angeles alt rockers had something special about them.
