Jane’s Addiction’s 25th anniversary concert is basically early Lollapalooza

Perry Farrell waxes nostalgia by booking lineup featuring Garbage, The Cult, Violent Femmes, and more

Prior to the latest edition of Lollapalooza, festival founder Perry Farrell chided the EDM-centric stage which bares his name. “When they said they wanted to name a stage after me (when the festival relaunched in 2005), I was honored,” Farrell told the Chicago Tribute. “I like the adulation. But now you say, ‘Perry, what’s going on with your area here?’ Believe me, I’ve got questions myself.”

“I hate EDM,” Farrell went on to say. “I want to vomit it out of my nostrils. I can’t stand what it did to what I love, which is house music, which was meditative, psychedelic — it took you on a journey. … I sometimes cringe at my own festival.”

Later in the interview, Farrell hinted at a new event that will “keep EDM at the door.” While it’s unclear whether he was referencing Jane’s Addiction‘s upcoming 25th anniversary event in Los Angeles, one thing is for sure: he’s programmed a lineup tailor-made for fans of the early Lollapalooza lineups.

On Friday, September 23rd, Jane’s Addiction will hit the stage at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre — the site of the first-ever Lollapalooza in 1991. Joining them on the bill are fellow ’90s alt rock staples including Garbage, The Cult, and Violent Femmes, along with hip-hop vets House of Pain.

The concert is part of Jane’s Addiction’s Sterling Spoon Anniversary Tour coming in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Ritual de lo Habitual.
