After years of anticipation, Chicago’s rising hip-hop superstar Mick Jenkins is finally dropping his debut album. Due out September 23rd via Mick’s own Free Nation, The Healing Component “is a reference to love being the quintessential healing component and love being able to heal all,” according to a press release.
“Just trying to see how much love is out there in the world in a time where we need it the most,” Jenkins states. “It’s so easy to hate, have a negative opinion. I want to actively talk about love- what it is, what it means to people, what it looks like and in just mere conversation that energy might be transferred. But with the music, that is precisely what we aim to do.”
As a tease, or perhaps to prove his point a month ahead of the album’s release, Jenkins has dropped its first single, “Spread Love”. Produced by Sango, the warm, friendly track feels like a late-night bubble bath, a steamy, four-minute combo of R&B and hip-hop. It’s a solid first slice and hints at even greater things to come.
In support of the album, Jenkins will soon hit the road alongside fellow St. Louis pal and MC, Smino. Presented by Red Bull Sound Select, the A Quest for Love Tour will hit 12 cities and only cost $3 with an RSVP. If that’s not spreading the love to you, then, damn, you’re one cynical motherfucker, dude.
