Even though he hasn’t released a full-length album in two years, Minnesota rapper Allan Kingdom has managed to remain in the public eye. In 2015, he appeared on Kanye West’s “All Day” single, which he then followed up with this past January’s Northern Lights mixtape and collaborations with Flume and Denzel Curry.
This week, Kingdom is back with a new solo song called “Froze”, and it sounds as though he’s ready to capture the throne for himself. Vocals coated in icy autotune, the MC swaps straightforward swagger for a more fulfilling sense of optimism regarding the future:
“Fuck it I’m awesome and I’m hopin’ that the crowd don’t see us/ Cause I’m blowin’ on the loud like Maria/ Hopin’ we can get it all together, IKEA/ Tryna better my peers/ Tryna think of better ideas.”
Did I just hear a reference to Yeezy and his recent IKEA woes? Hmm, perhaps. Stream it below for yourself.
