Superhero fans are about to get a nostalgic bam! pow! thwap! right in the kisser. Core cast members from the original 1960s Batman TV series are returning to voice a brand new animated feature from DC Entertainment.
The inimitable Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar are all back to voice their respective characters of Batman, Robin, and Catwoman in Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. EW broke the news with a promo trailer that teases a plot in which the dynamic duo must confront Catwoman, the Joker, Penguin, and the Riddler. Sadly, the actors who portrayed those other villains in the ’60s (Cesar Romero, Burgess Meredith, and Frank Gorshin, respectively) are no longer with us.
The original Batman show ran for 120 episodes between 1966 and 1968. The campy classic became iconic for the onomatopoeia graphics during fight scenes, West’s deadpan delivery of ridiculously verbose and axiomatic dialogue, and Ward’s “Holy … !” catchphrase. (Here’s a list of every time Robin said something was “holy” throughout the entire series, just for fun.) DC recently revitalized the series in the Batman ’66 comic book.
Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders is out digitally on October 11th and on Blu-Ray November 1st from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC Entertainment. Watch the teaser above, which appears to re-dub footage from a scene in the film as an advertisement.
Update: Watch the full-length trailer below.
