On Sunday, Pearl Jam closed out a two-night stint at Boston’s Fenway Park. The shows were essentially tributes to the Boston Strong city, with band members adorning Celtics and Red Sox attire, the setlist filled with rarities and surprise guests, and stories about sneaking into the famous ballpark during the band’s first-ever tour.
One of the biggest highlights came last night when Eddie Vedder welcomed out local legend J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. to join the band on their penultimate song, a cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World”. Ever the imperturbable guitarist, Mascis shredded solo after solo in the packed stadium, giving Vedder time to actually play a game of catch with the crowd. Drummer Matt Cameron’s son Ray also game out to show his guitar chops halfway through the performance.

Mascis wasn’t the only local icon to join PJ on Sunday. In the middle of their main set, the band welcomed out Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton to cover the Boston icons’ “Draw the Line”. They’d covered the song previously during the Friday night show, but Hamilton’s appearance on Sunday made it doubly memorable. Watch that video below.
