New Jersey indie rockers Real Estate are officially working on the follow-up to 2014’s excellent Atlas, and today they’ve shared their first clip of new material in a video posted to Instagram. Though the clip is only 10 seconds long and doesn’t offer much more than a peek into the band’s studio process, the music definitely registers as Real Estate. The guitars sound pleasantly slippery and the percussion understated; the sense of familiarity here will no doubt come as a relief to fans who worried about how Julian Lynch might slide into the band after founding member Matt Mondanile left back in May.
In a photo posted to Instagram yesterday, Real Estate confirmed that they’re currently mixing the new album, so it’s a good bet that this clip comes from a just-finished mix. Though the band hasn’t released an album for two years, the members have remained busy. Guitarist and frontman Martin Courtney released a solo album, Many Moons, earlier this year, and the band will follow up their short trek alongside The National with a US fall tour.
