Season 2 of Stranger Things will bring “justice for Barb”

The Duffer Brothers discuss the fate of two characters and what fans can expect when the show returns to Netflix

While Netflix has yet to officially green-light a second season of Stranger Things, it’s all but a done deal. Executives at Netflix have said they would be “dumb not to” give the ’80s sci-fi/horror series a second season, and the show’s creators have already begun plotting out a storyline.

In an interview with IGN, Matt and Ross Duffer were asked about the fate of fan favorite Barbara (“Barb”) Holland. Spoiler alert: Given that Barb was abducted and devoured by the monster, the Duffer Brothers say it’s unlikely that her character will return for the show’s second season. “But Barb will not be forgotten,” Matt promised. “We’ll make sure there’s some justice for Barb. People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn’t seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We’re just not spending any screen time on it.”

“Part of what we want to do with hypothetical Season 2 is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened,” Matt added.

The Duffer Brothers also addressed the fate of the show’s antagonist, Dr. Martin Brenner (played by Matthew Modine). Spoiler alert: Though Dr. Brenner certainly appears to die off screen in the show’s finale, Matt Duffer left the door open for a return.

“I would say that if we were going to kill Brenner … as an audience member watching the show, if that was his death, that would be very unsatisfying to me – when the monster jumps on him and we cut away. He would deserve much more than that as an ending. So yes, there’s a possibility of seeing him again.”

Season one of Stranger Things is currently streaming on Netflix. The show’s soundtrack, created by Survive, is available in two installments on Apple Music. Speaking of Survive, the Austin-based band recently created a guide to making synth music.
