The Avalanches explore a freaky underground system in “Subways” video — watch

Where pay phones are made of nipples and riders have cotton candy orgies

Last month, The Avalanches put out their first new album in 16 years (!), Wildflower. The Aussie outfit is supporting the comeback LP this week with a fresh video for dreamy single “Subways”.

An animated clip helmed by French illustrators Mrzyk & Moriceau, the video takes a surreal look at New York City’s underground metro system. Rather than your usual hodgepodge of trendy locals and discarded trash, there are colorful creatures with boomboxes, pay phones made of nipples, roaches on skateboards, fashionable rats, and cotton candy orgies. There’s even a car packed full with cats, which, as a lifelong New Yorker, I can say would be a vast improvement.

Check out the psychedelic visual above.
