The Muppets’ Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem make festival debut at Outside Lands — watch

Dr. Teeth, Animal, and the whole gang cover Edward Sharpe, The Beatles, and The Band

In a saturated festival market where band bookings have become ubiquitous, San Francisco’s Outside Lands pulled off the greatest exclusive performance of the year with one unique get. For the first time ever, The Muppets band Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem played “live” on stage in front of a real festival crowd.

The short 25-minute set was broken up with a handful of breaks to give the puppeteers a breather, but between those stoppages Dr. Teeth, Floyd Pepper, Janice, Zoot, Lips, and — of course — Animal put on a joyous show of feel-good tunes. Covers included the scenically appropriate “San Francisco” by The Mowgli’s, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ “Home”, and “Ophelia” by The Band. The set finished with the support of the Oakland Tabernacle Choir on an elated version of “With a Little Help From My Friends” by The Beatles.
