Yusuf Islam was recently announced as one of the performers at this year’s Global Citizens Festival in New York City, alongside Kendrick Lamar, Eddie Vedder, and Metallica. Turns out his appearance is part of a much larger North American tour, dubbed “A Cat’s Attic”, that runs from mid-September to early October.
The fall trek will see Islam deliver “stripped-down, introspective performances” to coincide with the 50th anniversary of “I Love My Dog”, the first hit single under his previous moniker, Cat Stevens. In addition to dates in Toronto, Boston, San Francisco, and Chicago, the singer-songwriter will stage his first public shows in the Big Apple since 1976 (two at Beacon Theatre, followed by Global Citizens).
Islam previously attempted to perform in New York City in 2014, but cancelled due to the state’s ban on paperless tickets. “My fans will understand and I thank them for informing me about the extortionate tickets prices already being listed on some websites,” he said at the time. “I have been a longtime supporter of paperless tickets to my shows worldwide and avoiding scalpers.”
A portion of every “A Cat’s Attic” ticket sold will benefit Islam’s charity, Small Kindness, which provides support to UNICEF and the International Rescue Committee.
