On Friday, September 23rd, Lizzo will grace the stage at Chicago’s Chop Shop venue alongside Joey Purp as part of Consequence of Sound’s latest Red Bull Sound Select show. The Minneapolis native has steadily built a legion of fans on the strength of her distinct hip-hop/pop/neo-soul hybrid sound.

Lizzo has also earned the backing of some familiar big names. Her 2013 debut album, Lizzobangers, was produced by both Lazerbeak and Ryan Olson of Poliça and GAYNGS fame; meanwhile, its follow-up, last year’s Big GRRRL Small World, was recorded at Justin Vernon’s April Base Studios in Wisconsin. Most recently, she was tapped to contribute to the soundtrack of this year’s Barbershop 3: The Next Cut, marking her major label debut.

Ahead of her sure to be memorable set, we’ve put together a short collection of must-hear songs from Lizzo’s varied catalog. “Batches and Cookies” is a highlight off Lizzobangers, while “Wegula” and “Night Party” are 2013 singles from the Lizzo-founded group Grrrl Prty. “Let ‘Em Say”, a collaboration with Caroline Smith, is a spunky anthem from 2014, and both “Humanize” and “Ain’t I” singles helped Big GRRRL Small World garner some major attention. Finally, “Good As Hell” is the good as hell Barbershop cut that demands multiple plays.
