Despite reuniting back in 2012, we haven’t heard any new music from Grandaddy in a decade. A little over a year ago, however, frontman Jason Lytle confirmed that he was indeed working on the band’s first material since 2006’s Just Like the Fambly Cat. Today we enjoy the fruits of that labor, as the beloved alternative rock outfit has shared two brand new tracks: “Way We Won’t” and “Clear Your History”.

“Way We Wont” (which you can hear above) may be the perfect comeback single for the band. It has that particular and familiar Grandaddy cadence, both in the crunchy riff’s and Lytle’s delivery. Nostalgia is present in the thematic content as prominently as the aural quality, yet it feels very much like Grandaddy writing a song in 2016.

“Clear Your History”, meanwhile, is the other side of the band’s coin. It’s a downbeat spiral, plucked strings and droning synths appearing to build but only serving to pull the the song further down into the depths. Take a listen below.

The two-track single is available now via Danger Mouse’s 30th Century Records. “Grandaddy have always been one of my favorite bands,” Danger Mouse said of the signing in a press release. “I think their new single is up there with their best work and I’m proud to have them become part of 30th Century.” You can purchase “Way We Won’t” b/w “Clear Your History” now via iTunes.

Stay tuned for word on when the band’s full-length return, one of the most anticipated albums of the year, is finally due.
