John Carpenter’s video for “Utopian Facade” is Tron meets Walking Dead — watch

Plus, legendary director and composer expands his UK tour schedule

As a director, John Carpenter has mixed sci-fi and horror to various levels of success, from The Thing right up to Ghosts of Mars. Thankfully, his latest attempt works just fine thanks to the tone set by his Lost Themes II track “Utopian Facade”.

The song’s video is something between Tron and a dystopian future zombie film. There’s no clear plot, but the mash-up genre is clear from the tropes sprinkled throughout. The android protagonist’s outfit is certainly reminiscent of something Kevin Flynn would’ve worn, and the cyborg creatures she’s running from could be pulled from a cheesy horror flick or a low-budget sci-fi adventure. Either way, stilted fight scenes and a cheeky ending show Carpenter’s clearly not taking himself too seriously here, and that makes it all work rather well. Check out the video, directed by Gavin Hignight and Ben Verhulst, above.

Carpenter has also added a new date to his first-ever UK tour. Find the legendary filmmaker and composer’s complete European itinerary below.
