Don’t get us wrong, Matt Damon: It’s pretty cool that you found a way to live on Mars for a while. But being the first human born on the Red Planet is another feat entirely.
Peter Chelsom’s forthcoming romantic sci-fi drama The Space Between Us follows a teen (Asa Butterfield) whose astronaut mother gave birth to him on Mars and subsequently died in childbirth, leaving him to grow up on a planet thousands of miles from Earth. When he travels to Earth for the first time and meets up with a girl (Britt Robertson) who doesn’t quite believe his backstory, the pair hit the road and hope that his Martian body can adapt to the strains of Earth’s environment. It’s a pretty unique concept even for by sci-fi’s lofty standards, and we’re hoping the cool science stuff outweighs the mushy teen romance stuff.
Gary Oldman co-stars in the trailer, which you can watch above. The film hits theaters December 16th.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORrVWjyBGng
