Sims keeps it “OneHundred” with lead track off new album More Than Ever — listen

The first preview of the Doomtree member's upcoming solo effort

Sims is best known for his work as part of the Minneapolis rap collective Doomtree, but he shines just fine when left to his own devices. Take his new track “One Hundred” off of his upcoming album More Than Ever. Over producer Lazerbeak’s woozy wash of tinkling ivories, cracking snares and post-Cruel Summer vocal samples, Sims’ rapping is left clear to spit his message of anarchy and fun.

“This is a light-hearted song about feeling pinned down by people trying to tell you how to be. A quick dip into the paranoia of being surveilled by the NSA, Twitter, and then a declarative ‘fuck it,'” Sims explains to Consequence of Sound. “It’s about being happy to be yourself and not worrying about what anyone has to say about it. But mostly I just wanted to rap my ass off.”

After one listen, you’ll agree his ass is officially off. Check it out below.

Out November 4th via Doomtree Records, More Than Ever was written after a trying winter for the Minneapolis rapper. After experiencing the death or sickness of many in his core group of friends and family, “he decided that the only acceptable answer to big loss is big joy—urgent, defiant, unapologetic joy.” That joy spilled out over 13 tracks with the help of producers Lazerbeak, Paper Tiger, and ICETEP.
