Odds are that when we finally do discover alien life, our first encounter won’t be with a bug-eyed Grey or an acid-blooded Xenomorph. More likely, it will be a single-celled organism, tiny and unassuming, but no less incredible.
Of course, there’s every chance that “unassuming” will actually mean “incredibly volatile and deadly.” That’s essentially the premise behind the new science fiction movie Life. The film sees Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, and Rebecca Ferguson cast as members of crew aboard the International Space Station. Together, they step across a threshold of history by discovering the first extraterrestrial life on Mars. However, their research methods lead to dire consequences when the life proves to be far more advanced and violent than they’d anticipated.
Directed by Daniel Espinosa (Child 44, Safe House) and scripted by the writing duo of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland), Life also stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Ariyon Bakare, and Olga Dihovichnaya as other astronauts aboard the ISS. Zero Media and Sony Pictures today have shared our first look at the film via a pair of trailers; watch the domestic version above and the quite different international one below.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgOGqWHtjP0
Life hits US theaters on May 24th, 2017.
