“Avert your eyes from the tragic and horrible sight,” cautions the press release for the new trailer for Netflix’s forthcoming Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. But we’re going to tell you to ignore that warning, because the first full look at the streaming series makes it looks pretty darn enjoyable.
The preview gives us a good feel for the tone of the show, something appropriately between splendor and dread. Neil Patrick Harris portrays the evil Count Olaf with tactfully reserved mischief as he plots to demise of the Baudeliar children, Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes), and baby Sunny (probably multiple babies). We also get to see Olaf’s crew of henchmen, as well as a few of his various disguises like Captain Julio Sham, Stephano, and Shirley T. Sinoit-Pécer.
What’s more, the trailer provides a first look at some of the series’ guest stars, such as Joan Cusack (Justice Strauss), Aasif Mandvi (Uncle Monty), Catherine O’Hara (Dr. Georgina Orwell), Alfre Woodard (Aunt Josephine), and of course, Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket himself.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TIe0bQtp5M
A Series of Unfortunate Events will still follow the sad, tragic misadventures of the Baudelaire siblings, a trio of whip-smart young children forced to live with the nefarious Count Olaf after their parents are killed in a suspicious fire. As they’re forced to adapt to Olaf’s unforgiving methods of child rearing, they also begin to notice strange things going on with and around Olaf, and have to rely on one another to survive. The whole series premieres on Netflix this January on — fittingly — Friday the 13th. Watch the trailer above.
