Bob Dylan is the recipient of the 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature. It took a few weeks for him to acknowledge the accolade, but when he was finally reached for comment, he said it was “amazing, incredible.”
A celebratory gala is set for December 10th in Stockholm, Sweden. Dylan had planned to attend; however, according to a press release, he has now sent the Swedish Academy a letter informing them otherwise.
In “a personal letter,” Dylan said he would be unable to attend the ceremony “due to pre-existing commitments,” notes the press release, which adds, “He underscored, once again, that he feels very honored indeed, wishing that he could receive the prize in person.”
As a recipient of the Nobel Prize, Dylan is required to do a Nobel lecture between now and next June.
