Chance the Rapper sends prayer to Kanye West, covers Drake on BBC Radio1 — listen

A cover of "Feel No Ways" and "a very special prayer to my big brother, Kanye West

Chance the Rapper appeared as an early morning guest on BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Live Lounge today accompanied by some of his Social Experiment compatriots. Entertaining the British commuters in their cars, Lil Chano performed two songs, one of which turned into a prayer for his “big brother,” Kanye West, while the other was a Drake cover.

“I want to extend a very special prayer to my big brother, Kanye West,” Chance said in the middle of “All We Got”, his Coloring Book collaboration with the ailing rapper. “I know there’s a lot of weird folks out there but you already know that I’m a hundred grand. I want to just extend this prayer and extend this love from all the way in Britain. We might come back early to see this man. Happy Thanksgiving.”

West was recently hospitalized after a series of increasingly bizarre stage rants, truncated concerts, and eventually the cancelation of his Saint Pablo Tour. “I think everybody goes through it,” Chance said of his mentor’s current situation. “And I think right now, probably what he needs more than anything is his real, close friends and family around.”

In the second half of the interview, Chance gave shoutouts to rising Chicago rappers like Saba, Noname, and the Social Experiment’s Nico, Peter Cottontail, and Stix. Discussing more established veterans, he called Common one of “the most inspirational people that I know personally,” and again gave thanks to West. When it came time to cover a song — as is typical on Live Lounge — Chance chose Drake’s “Feel No Ways”.

You can listen to the entire thing over at the BBC. Chance’s segment begins around the 02:16:00 mark, with the second half picking up at 02:28:00
