Donald Glover is less than a month away from the release of his third album as Childish Gambino. Titled Awaken, My Love!, the 11-track effort is being previewed today with a new song called “Redbone”.
Like its excellent predecessor, “Me and Your Mama”, this latest offering sees Glover flexing his vocal chords far more than his rhymes. It’s slow-burning soul jam with just enough funk to fool you into thinking it’s 1978. As is the case with most of Awaken, the song was co-written by Swedish musician Ludovin, a frequent collaborator who’s also contributed to sitcoms like New Girl, Happy Endings, and the Glover-starring Community.
