Kanye West 2020? Kanye West 2020. Seriously, it might be happening. Six months ago, I’d read a story with that information and chuckled. But now? Anything’s possible, I guess. Kanye 2020, Michelle Obama 2024, CoS CEO Alex Young 2028. The world is a complicated place. Well, if you want to think about some other things, take a listen on below.

10. Run the Jewels feat. Boots – “2100”

Run the Jewels

Run the Jewels released their new track “for everyone who is hurting or scared right now.” — which seems to be quite a lot of people. El-P and Killer Mike yet again team up with super-producer Boots, this time using his slinky vocals for a Muse-y noir rock hook. But first the duo dig into the terrifying reality we now all face: “How long before the hate that we hold/ Lead us to another Holocaust?” Mike asks to open the track, while El gets everyone ready for whatever’s coming next. Squonking bass synths and sharp 808 snare keep things moving, but Boots’ guitar lends a loopy eeriness to the verses. And yes, even the most outspoken political voices against the recent results see some light at the end of the tunnel: “You defeat the devil when you hold onto hope/ ‘Cause kinfolk life is beautiful,” Mike insists. We hope Run the Jewels 3 will have some more hope and be available soon. –Adam Kivel
