Rhymefest plans to convert Kanye West’s childhood home into a community arts space

Space will include a recording studio, curriculum space, and music museum for Chicago's South Side

While Kanye West continues to recover in a Los Angeles hospital, his friend and fellow Chicagoan Rhymefest has made a big announcement on behalf of West’s charity, Donda’s House. Rhymefest has purchased West’s childhood home on Chicago’s South Side and now plans to turn it into a “community arts incubator” complete with a state-of-the-art recording studio, a curriculum space, and a museum honoring the South Side’s rich music history. Check out Rhymefest’s Instagram post announcing the acquisition below.

Donda’s House has also provided an official statement about the acquisition, which you can read below:

“In order to deepen the organization’s impact, Donda’s House has acquired a home facility that will provide a permanent location for all of the Donda’s House family to gather, offer programming, and grow. Donda’s House envisions this facility as not only a homegrown hub of economic activity for the southside but also a gathering place for the community with events and concerts. Donda’s House selected this location in particular, because it is the former home of the organization’s namesake Dr. Donda West, who at one time provided similar services and support to incubate young artists. Donda’s House is committed to the success of Chicago’s young creatives and this property will help these young people flourish.”
