On the eve of the 2016 election, Vic Mensa appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to rattle off “16 Shots”, a powerful song about police brutality and gunned-down black teen Laquan McDonald. The Chicago MC, who last year hit the streets to protest McDonald’s death, was accompanied onstage by special guest Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker as well as dancers outfitted in intimidating riot gear. Throughout the performance, they loomed and lurked behind Mensa, before finally converging on him in a poetic but chilling moment.
Check it out up above. “16 Shots” is taken from Mensa’s There’s Alot Going On EP.
