On Christmas Day, Denzel Washington and Viola Davis will bring August Wilson’s 1987 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play Fences to the Silver Screen. The pair previously starred in a 2010 Broadway revival, for which they won Tony Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress in a Play. Now, they’ll reprise their roles as Troy and Rose Maxson for a theatrical adaption directed by Washington himself.
Set in 1950s Pittsburgh, Fences tells the story of a former Negro league baseball play, now working as a garbage man, who struggles to provide for his family amidst a racially-tense climate.
