Bruno Mars is one of pop music’s premier performers, his showmanship so coveted and universally enjoyed the NFL wanted to book him twice for their Super Bowl Halftime Show. His magnetic energy isn’t just for the big stages and arenas, though, as his Carpool Karaoke appearance last night proved. It turns out that even while riding shotgun, cooped up in James Corden’s car, the R&B/pop phenom still manages to be a larger-than-life presence.
Mars rolled out hit after hit, including “24K Magic”, the golden title track of his latest album, along with past favorites like “Uptown Funk”, “Locked Out Of Heaven”, “Grenade”, and “If I Knew”. In between their singing, Mars discussed his early days as a child performer, gave Corden a tutorial in lip licking, and revealed why wine and wet wipes are essential items on his tour rider.
Easily a 10X more pleasant watch than last week’s charmless installment of Carpool Karaoke starring Madonna.
