Well, here’s a sentence I never thought I’d write: The elusive, impenetrable California singer/songwriter Cass McCombs was on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show this morning.
Along with a four-piece band, McCombs offered a lovely rendition of “Bum Bum Bum,” the first track from Mangy Love, which he dropped in August. McCombs has long been a cult favorite, as well as sometimes alienating in his leaps between psychedelia, folk, and alt-country. I doubt anyone would peg Degeneres a Wit’s End fan, but her live intro is fawning and her website cites McCombs as “one of Ellen’s favorite artists.”
Too bad he didn’t show off his tea blowing skills.
Watch the performance above.
