It’s hard to fathom, but Daft Punk never had a No. 1 single. “Harder, Faster, Better, Stronger” failed to crack the Top 100. “One More Time” peaked at No. 61. “Get Lucky”? It reached No. 2, but was unable to surpass another Pharrell collaboration in “Blurred Lines” and its soft-core porn of a music video.
Now, though, Daft Punk have finally topped the charts, and it’s all thanks to The Weeknd. “Starboy”, the title track to the R&B crooner’s new album, is the No. 1 single in the US this week after beating out Rae Sremmurd’s meme sensation “Black Beatle”. As Daft Punk are prominently featured on the track, they get to add the chart-topping accolade to their Wikipedia page.
