Exclusive: Tool to headline New York’s Governors Ball Music Festival in 2017

Hard rock titans to play first New York City show in over a decade

Tool

Hard rock titans Tool haven’t played a proper show in New York City in over a decade. That’ll soon change, however, as the band is set to headline the Governors Ball Music Festival next summer, Consequence of Sound has learned.

Now in its seventh year, the New York-based festival goes down June 2nd – 4th at Randalls Island Park. Not only will the appearance mark Tool’s first New York City show in 11 years, but it will be their first time playing the Northeast region of the US since 2012.

Tool’s previous New York City shows came in support of their 2006 album, 10,000 Days. The band remains hard at work on its long-awaited follow-up. As of October, they’ve recorded two albums’ worth of material, but only five songs met the band’s standard and frontman Maynard James Keenan had yet to write any lyrics (he traditionally waits until 90% of the instrumentals are written).

Representatives for Governors declined our request for comment, saying only, “The full Governors Ball lineup will be announced early next year, at which point tickets will also go on sale.”
