It’s time to love Spider-Man again.
Back in May, Tom Holland turned heads everywhere across the world with his turn as Peter Parker in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War. He was funny, he was spry, and, best of all, he actually acted like a kid having fun being Spider-Man.
Come next summer, he’ll have an entire movie to do just that with Sony’s highly anticipated (second) reboot, Spider-Man: Homecoming. Following yesterday’s brief 17-second tease, the studio has now dropped the full thing, making true believers out of anyone who doubted the series’ future.
Then again, we were already on board after seeing its awe-inspiring cast, specifically Marisa Tomei returning as Aunt May; Michael Keaton, Logan Marshall-Green, and Bokeem Woodvine as the villains; in addition to a delectable assortment of corollary personalities such as Donald Glover, Martin Starr, Hannibal Buress, and Tony Revolori.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.”
Cop Car director Jon Watts directs from a screenplay by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, while both Sony’s Amy Pascal and Marvel’s Kevin Feige serve as producers. It should be noted that this is the 16th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and what better way to celebrate the franchise’s Sweet 16.
Spider-Man: Homecoming shoots its web on July 7th, 2017.
