Following in the footsteps of Adele, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Lady Gaga, Madonna joined James Corden for a Carpool Karaoke ride on Wednesday. The veteran pop singer pulled hits old and new from her storied catalog throughout their drive around New York City, including “Vogue”, “Papa Don’t Preach”, “Ray of Light”, and “Bitch I’m Madonna”.
While the sing-alongs were fairly entertaining and even peppered with bits of choreography — the pop star unfastens her seatbelt to twerk right for the camera at point — the banter between Madonna and Corden fell pretty flat. There were instances where the late-night host tried his best to lighten the mood, but his jokes were repeatedly met by a self-serious or cynical response from Madonna. Corden usually gels well with his passengers, but this time around the lack of chemistry and charm almost ruins the whole segment.
