Martin Scorcese is currently juggling a handful of different projects, including a Frank Sinatra biopic, an Evel Knievel biopic, and an original crime drama called The Irishman starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. By the sound of it, however, his next priority will be a film adaptation of The Devil in the White City starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Erik Larson’s 2003 best-selling novel “intertwines the true tale of the 1893 World’s Fair and the cunning serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims to their death.” DiCaprio is reportedly set to play the serial killer, Dr. H. H. Holmes.

News of the project was first announced last summer, but because of other engagements, including new drama Silence, which opens this Friday, Scorcese has had to put work on The Devil in the White City on hold. “One of the things that I had to stop for the past six months was my meetings on that script,” the director told the Toronto Sun. “They want me to start again in January and see if we can find a way because it’s an extraordinary story.”
When DiCaprio and Scorese get together, good things usually happen. They previously teamed up on Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Wolf of Wall Street, and The Departed, for which Scorcese finally earned his first Oscar for Best Director.
