Melvins share frighteningly good holiday cover of “Carol of the Bells” — listen

Plus, Los Campesinos! take on "When Christmas Comes" for new Amazon playlist

Last week, we heard Best Coast fire up her holiday spirit with new original song “Christmas and Everyday”. Now, Melvins and Los Campesinos! are getting in on the fun and spreading the cheer with two Christmas covers. The tracks are part of Amazon’s latest installment of their Indie for the Holidays compilation.

For their part, Melvins turn the classic “Carol of the Bells” into a frightening affair, something worthy of a warped Nightmare Before Christmas spinoff. “The song has scared us since we were children, that’s why we wanted to do it,” frontman Buzz Osborne tells Stereogum.

Los Campesinos!’s submission, as one might expect, takes on an entirely different tone. Not unlike Sufjan Stevens’ rich and lively holiday tunes, the UK indie pop outfit puts an extra glimmer of joy on its rendition of “When Christmas Comes”.
