Concert promotion company The Bowery Presents has announced the arrival of a new 1,800-capacity venue in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood. When it opens in spring 2017, Brooklyn Steel will be the largest general admission venue in Brooklyn and has already committed to a slate of headliners including The Decemberists, Pixies, PJ Harvey, Two Door Cinema Club, Animal Collective, Perfume Genius, Whitney, Tycho, The Black Angels, and San Fermin.
The name Brooklyn Steel presumably refers to the space’s industrial look, as the venue features hundreds of tons of steel in the construction and include repurposed materials throughout. Hipster-friendly additions to the decor include a bar created from scrap metal and a salvaged five-ton steel hook hanging over the main lobby. A more acoustic-friendly addition is the 10,000-square-foot green roof designed to confine sound within the venue.
Brooklyn Steel will join The Bowery Presents’ roster of venues throughout Brooklyn and New York City, including Music Hall of Williamsburg, Rough Trade, The Bowery Ballroom, and Terminal 5. It will be located at 319 Frost Street in Williamsburg.
