Carrie Fisher, the actress best known for playing Princess Leia in Star Wars, reportedly suffered a major heart attack while aboard a flight on Friday.
According to TMZ, Fisher, 60, was on a flight from London to Los Angeles when she went into cardiac arrest. A paramedic who happened to be on the flight administered CPR as the plane made an emergency landing in LA. Once on the ground, Fisher was rushed to an area hospital.
Update – 11:30 p.m. CT: In a follow-up interview with The Associated Press, Todd Fisher said his sister remains in the hospital’s intensive care unit and is receiving “excellent” treatment. He also backtracked from his earlier comments that Carrie was in stable condition, saying her condition is unknown. “We don’t know. We hope for the best,” Todd told Entertainment Tonight. “We certainly do not know her condition, that’s why she is in ICU. I’m sure everyone wants to speculate, but now is not the time for that.”
Update – 7:20 p.m. CT: Fisher is out of the emergency room and currently in stable condition, her brother told The Associated Press.
Update – 5:20 p.m. CT: TMZ reports that paramedics were able to get a pulse after performing 15 minutes of CPR. She is currently on a ventilator listed under critical condition.
