The Roots assisted Lin Manuel Miranda in creating a companion mixtape to his widely popular Broadway musical Hamilton. Everyone from Chance the Rapper, to Sia, to Regina Spektor contributed new interpretations of the show’s most potent tracks. Last week, The Roots’ Questlove and Black Thought supported the release by leading a live concert at the Richard Rogers Theatre, where productions of Hamilton are staged regularly.
Last night, they did it again, this time bringing along Busta Rhymes and Joell Ortiz to The Tonight Show to rattle off an inspiring performance of “My Shot”. Black Thought raps and pleads his case to a boardroom of execs, while Ortiz preaches from a pulpit. For his part, Rhymes — donning quite possibly the most fabulous Hamilton outfit — joins the crowd to truly get things hyped up.
