The Wire’s Andre Royo recites Nick Cave’s short story “The Lonely Giant” — watch

Another story from Waxploitation's charity book Stories for Ways and Means

Next year, Waxploitation will release a new charitable book project entitled Stories for Ways and MeansLabel founder Jeff Antebi spent a decade putting the tome together, tapping musicians like Tom Waits, Justin Vernon, Frank Black, Alison Mosshart, Kathleen Hanna, and others to create short stories which were then given visuals by acclaimed artists. Some of these tales were even made into short videos with guest narrators, like Jim James’ “Oslo and Plum” as read by Phil Lamar.

Today, another one of those videos has been shared. In this latest clip, Andre Royo (The Wire) recites “The Lonely Giant” by Nick Cave. Royo strolls through a garden while he tells the tale of a giant so sad that he has no one to take care of him that his tears flood the world. It’s a sweet little story about the comfort and joy we find in having a companion, and you can listen to it above.

Guest narration for future stories will feature Danny DeVito, Joey Bada$$, Zach Galifianakis, and more. You can pre-order the 350-page book here, though a release date has yet to be announced. All proceeds benefit non-profits and NGOs like Room to Read, Pencils of Promise, and 826 National, all of which focus on children’s literacy issues.
