2017 Emmy Winners: The Complete List

Big Little Lies, The Handmaid's Tale, and Saturday Night Live take home the gold

Celebrating the best in television, the 2017 Emmy Awards went down on Sunday, September 17th at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Broadcast live on CBS, the network’s go-to Late Show host Stephen Colbert handled the festivities.

For Drama, Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale came out strong, winning Best Drama Series, Best Actress in a Drama Series (Elisabeth Moss), Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Ann Dowd), Best Writing for a Drama Series (Bruce Miller), and Best Directing for a Drama Series (Reed Morano). In that same category, Sterling K. Brown took home Best Actor in a Drama Series for his work on NBC’s This Is Us, while John Lithgow won Best Supporting Actor in Drama Series for his role as Winston Churchill on Netflix’s The Crown.

For Comedy, FX’s Atlanta shattered history with Donald Glover becoming the first black male to win Best Directing for a Comedy Series. He also took home Best Actor. Meanwhile, HBO’s Veep also shook the history books as Julia Louis-Dreyfus nabbed her sixth consecutive Best Actress win, making this the most number of Emmys won by a single performer for a single role. And that’s not all, Lena Waithe’s Best Writing win for Master of None, alongside Aziz Ansari, marks the first time a black female has won the award.

For Limited Series, HBO’s Big Little Lies had a big little night for themselves, winning Best Limited Series, Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie (Nicole Kidman), Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie (Laura Dern), Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a Television Movie (Alexander Skarsgard), and Best Directing for a Limited Series or a Television Movie (Jean-Marc Vallee). Somewhere in there, Riz Ahmed narrowly escaped a win for Best Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie for his transformative role on HBO’s The Night Of.

For Variety, NBC’s Saturday Night Live had a huuuuge night, grabbing Best Variety Series, Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Kate McKinnon), Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Alec Baldwin), and Best Directing for a Variety Series (Don Roy King).

For Variety Talk Series, HBO’s Last Week Tonight came out swinging and walked back with Best Variety Talk Series and Best Writing for a Variety Series.

Elsewhere, Netflix’s Black Mirror won both of its categories for “San Junipero”, specifically Best TV Movie and Best Writing for a Limited Series or a Television Movie.

Strangely enough, Stranger Things returns to Hawkins, Indiana empty-handed.
